How Singapore project teams can structure MEP BIM coordination, Navisworks clash review, issue ownership and multidisciplinary model updates.
Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) coordination is one of the highest-value uses of BIM because building-services systems compete for limited physical space. Ducts, pipes, cable containment, equipment, structure, ceilings, access zones and architectural elements must be coordinated as a system. Autodesk Navisworks can reveal geometry conflicts, but successful coordination depends on how results are interpreted, assigned and resolved.
Define the disciplines, model versions, project coordinates, clash combinations, tolerances where the project specifies them, zones, priority systems and reporting rules before running tests. The clash matrix should reflect actual project risk rather than testing every object against every other object. The team should also distinguish between hard clashes, clearance or access concerns, design incompleteness and issues that need consultant decisions.
A practical cycle is model intake, federation, model-version check, automated and visual review, clash grouping, issue creation, assignment, coordination discussion, model revision and re-test. Repeated clashes should be grouped logically so project teams do not receive hundreds of duplicate screenshots for the same routing problem. Meetings should focus on the spatial or design decision required, not on reading software output line by line.
Issue closure needs evidence. A clash can disappear because an element was hidden, deleted or moved incorrectly, so “zero clashes” is not a reliable management target by itself. The responsible discipline should update the model to reflect the agreed solution, and the coordinator should verify the relevant interfaces in the next model exchange. Access, maintenance and constructability concerns may also require visual review beyond automated clash tests.
Singapore MEP projects commonly involve consultants, a main contractor and multiple specialist trades. BIMProSG can support coordination and Navisworks review within the project’s existing responsibility matrix, but it does not make design decisions for appointed consultants or certify that coordinated models are automatically approved for construction. Design, approval and regulatory responsibilities remain with the relevant project parties.
Pricing should identify the number of disciplines, model size, model exchange frequency, coordination zones, clash tests, report format, meeting participation and expected review cycles. If models are received late or design decisions remain unresolved, the programme should recognise those dependencies rather than treating every delay as modelling rework.
Provide current discipline models, coordinate information, clash matrix or priorities, model naming rules, issue-status conventions, coordination programme, known constraints and the people authorised to decide routing or design questions. Large federated files can be exchanged securely after BIMProSG reviews the initial written job scope.
The objective of MEP BIM coordination is not a perfect-looking clash report; it is a coordinated project decision trail that reduces avoidable site conflicts. Teams can engage BIMProSG for managed coordination or hire marketplace Navisworks and MEP BIM specialists directly.
